CASARA NWT joined in 1988, 2 years after the formation of CASARA National to provide search assistance in the north. Today, we have 70+ Members in NWT that are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide aerial search and rescue services. Our searches are either tasked by the JRCC (Joint Rescue Coordination Center) or are the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police).
In the north, flying conditions and landscape terrains can be very different than our neighboring provinces down below, therefore an annual 140+ training hours and a total of over 3000+ volunteer hours are done to make our organization ready. Our organization is split up into 4 zones (sections) to cover 4 areas of the Northwest Territories, which includes Hay River, Inuvik, Norman Wells, and Yellowknife. As an organization we only conduct our operations within NWT, but work with multiple affiliate organizations within the search and rescue space like the Yellowknife Search and Rescue, Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary Yellowknife Unit, and many others to provide Co-Operations necessary for successful search and rescue missions.
